Before watching Amar Singh Chamkila, I didn’t know much about Chamkila. But this film, directed by Imtiaz Ali, and starring Diljit Dosanjh, was a pleasant surprise.
For those of you who don’t know Amar Singh Chamkila, he was the highest record selling artist of Punjab in the 1970-80s. This movie is his biopic, a tragic story, available on Netflix.
The story and screenplay are the film’s backbone, gripping the audience from the outset. It showcases the tumultuous journey of an artist, portraying the highs and lows with poignant realism.
Imtiaz Ali is what a director!! He has created a masterpiece. If had to give credit to one person for this film, it would be him. Diljit Dosanjh’s portrayal of Chamkila is nothing short of extraordinary. Known for his music, Dosanjh proves his mettle as a versatile actor, leaving an indelible mark.
Chamkila is not depicted as a victim of circumstances but as a complex individual, adding layers to the narrative. The photos instilled in the screenplay, keeps reminding us that this is not fiction, this was the reality.
Parineeti Chopra shines in the role, adding depth to the narrative. The entire cast delivers commendable performances, breathing life into their characters.
The cinematography deserves special mention for its ability to transport the audience to a bygone era. The music is unforgettable, tell us your views about the music.Music is not what you expect of a Diljit Dosanjh movie, but it is a part of movie, you may hate, but don’t equate it to the whole movie.Our favorite would be the soul-stirring track “Bida Karo Mujhe,” strikes a chord, complementing the narrative beautifully.
This movie made me believe in the live and let live, philosophy a little more. Who are we to decide, what is right and what is wrong?
This film is not for those seeking light-hearted entertainment. It’s a gripping tale that demands your attention and leaves a lasting impact. Imtiaz Ali has crafted a masterpiece that deserves to be remembered. I highly recommend Amar Singh Chamkila and would give it a 4.5-star rating. But this is not for everyone.
